Sharks Complete the 2004 Double with Play-Off Final Glory
On 2 May 2004, at the National Indoor Arena, the Sharks defeated the Chester Jets 86–74 to secure the Play-Off title and complete a memorable Cup and Play-Off double.
Sharks Rise to the Occasion
The Play-Off Final brought together two talented sides, but from early in the contest it was clear Sheffield had arrived determined to finish the season as champions.
The Sharks played with confidence on both ends of the floor, combining disciplined defence with fast, aggressive offence as they gradually took control of the game. Every time the Jets threatened to build momentum, Sheffield responded with another crucial basket or defensive stop.
At the heart of the performance was Lynard Stewart.
The athletic forward delivered a sensational display in the Final, repeatedly attacking the Chester defence and producing big plays whenever the Sharks needed them most. Stewart’s energy, physicality, and scoring ability proved too much for the Jets to contain.
As the game moved into the closing stages, Sheffield remained firmly in command, eventually sealing an impressive 86–74 victory to spark celebrations among the Sharks supporters.
MVP Performance
Lynard Stewart was deservedly named Play-Off Final MVP after leading Sheffield with:
25 points
Play-Off Final MVP honours
His performance capped a dominant evening for the Sharks and cemented his place in club folklore.
A Historic Double
The victory completed a remarkable 2003–04 campaign for Sheffield.
Having already lifted the BBL Cup earlier in the season, the Sharks added the Play-Off Championship to secure one of the most celebrated doubles in club history.
It was further proof that Sheffield remained one of the premier forces in British basketball — a team capable of delivering on the biggest occasions and thriving under pressure.
